"The National Association of Advisers in English (NAAE) works to promote the
highest standards of English teaching in school, through the involvement of
its members as advisers, inspectors and consultants in the schools of
England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Association originally repesented
the views of English advisers employed by local education authorities, but,
in recent years, other colleagues have joined us, some in the role of NLS
Consultants and others increasingly in the capacity of freelance
consultants.
NAAE is recognised nationally for its expertise and valuable insights into
English, language and literacy. Its senior officers meet regularly with
colleagues from Ofsted, QCA and NLS to share their perceptions of English
teaching and standards in classrooms, the feedback of teachers to the INSET
we organise, and the evidence of inspections. The Association's knowledge of
the current situation in school-based English, from Early Years to A level,
is unrivalled. Many former and serving members have been promoted to
nationally influential positions.
The Association supports colleagues who are engaged in Ofsted inspections-
of schools or LEAs, and also advises members on management issues connected
to NLS, for example.
NAAE members have the opportunity to meet regionally in a smaller setting.
Occasional NAAE days, on recently relevant topics are organised, usually on
Saturdays, in venues around each of the participating counties. More than
100 members meet together at the Annual Conference.
Membership
costs £25 per year and further details about membership can be found by
contacting the Secretary or Treasurer. I hope you take the opportunity
to join us.
